Why are We Afraid?

8 If the LORD is pleased with us, he will lead us into that land, a land flowing with milk and honey, and will give it to us. 9 Only do not rebel against the LORD. And do not be afraid of the people of the land, because we will swallow them up. Their protection is gone, but the LORD is with us. Do not be afraid of them.” Numbers 14:8-9

It was amazing! The Children of Israel had just seen God’s miraculous works as He empowered Moses to lead them, as He freed them from Pharoah’s oppressive hand, as he moved the seas in order for them to go across dry land. He even fed them in the wilderness – but here they are afraid that they will be taken captive again or even worse, killed and plundered for wanting to take possession of land. In their ignorance and lack of faith, they rise up against Moses and Aaron and even want to stone them – because they are AFRAID.

Before we are too harsh on our Israelite examples, let us, too, acknowledge that we go through times of uncertainty and are AFRAID when we don’t have all the answers or know the outcomes of our dilemmas! We forget the freedom that God has placed in our lives – setting us free from the bondage of sin. We forget the Messiah He sent to save us from our oppression and an eternity in hell! We forget those drought moments in our lives where He provided peace and comfort and ANSWERS!!!! How we forget when we are AFRAID!

We must remember His ability to do exceedingly and abundantly above all we can ask or think! We must remember that He is able to make crooked places straight and to move mountains in our lives!

Do not be afraid, my sister, my brother! Do not rebel against the Lord! The Lord is with you and the protection of your enemies is gone! God is protecting and keeping you in His loving arms!

Do Not Be Afraid – You serve an awesome God!
