The Sanctity of the River

4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells. 5 God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day. 6 Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; he lifts his voice, the earth melts. 7 The LORD Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah

Psalm 46:4-7

It seems that all of the scriptures that God has led me to recently speak to His ability to comfort and protect us. I know that most people today are experiencing things in their lives for which they need comfort and protection. There seems to be a feeling of heaviness and uncertainty in many and we know that a lot of it has to do with the economic situation our country is facing. But also there are many that are facing other things just as devastating – the loss of lives in senseless acts of violence, loved ones who are passing seemingly prematurely, marriages that are breaking down and disintegrating and children that are behaving unseemly. Yes, there is a lot going on! But when I read these verses, my heart found hope! Suddenly I could feel the river that resides in the holy place of the Most High wash over my feelings of dread, uncertainty, and yes – fear!

Verse 6 speaks to our present day situation: Nations are in an uproar and kingdoms are falling – but all God has to do is lift His voice and all will be as He has ordained it! I don’t know what you’re facing today – things may be a little too much for you – the uncertainty of whether you can make it might have you fearful. Your marriage or relationships may be in jeopardy but remember, the Lord Almighty is with us – He is our fortress! Take a minute to feel the breeze that is emanating  from the River of God – let the warm water wash over those feelings that are gripping you. Take a moment to reflect on the awesome presence of God and His ability to redeem, restore and rejuvenate! He knows what you are going through and He has not forgotten you! Rejoice in the sanctity of the River!
