The Lord of our Waiting

Wait on the LORD; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the LORD!

Psalm 27:14

Waiting is sometimes a very hard task to complete. Is it not irritating to have agreed to pick someone up or meet them at a certain time only to wait because they are not ready or not arrived on time? In our microwave, instant society waiting has become most annoying. We get in the mindset that things should be done expeditiously and without much waiting. We have instant messages, instant food, and instant information at our fingertips. Unfortunately, we tend to come to God with those same expectations. We want God to respond instantly, immediately, expeditiously. However, we must allow the Lord to be Lord over every aspect of our lives: Lord of our walk, our wealth and our waiting!

Waiting on God might seem impossible if you are not confident in His person, committed to His provision and comforted by His promises. When learning to wait on God, He begins to develop Christ-likeness in us. He delivers us from worry and fret and we then begin to learn to depend and trust Him to strengthen our heart while we wait.

David is a great example to us as we learn to wait. While David was on the run he proclaimed, “The Lord is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear?” He had confidence in God’s person – The Lord is light – illumination, brightness, shining light and had proven to David that He could supersede whatever darkness was in his life. David also understood that God was his salvation – his deliverance from his fears, his foes, his fights, his failures and his frustrations. What or whom shall we fear when we have God in our corner? We can wait for Him to handle things in His time.

We can also be committed to His provision as we lean on Him, love Him, and linger in His presence! Spending time with the Lord will give you assurance of His provisions as He constantly shows Himself strong in your life.

Finally, we are comforted by His promises! He promises never to leave us nor forsake us! David said he’d never seen the righteous forsaken nor his seed begging for bread. No weapon formed against us shall prosper! All things are working together for our good! When the enemy comes in like a flood the Spirit of the Lord will raise up a standard against him. Nothing shall separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus! There are countless promises that prove that the Lord has our back, He has our best interest at heart and He’s working things out for our benefit.

We may wait to see our circumstances change, but God may be keeping the circumstances in our lives in order to change us! While you wait, meditate! Meditate on His goodness, His mercy and His lovingkindness.  Allow Him to be the Lord of your waiting – getting glory through you even as you wait on Him. Be confident in His person, committed to His provision and comforted by His promises.
