The Keeper

I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? 2 My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth.

3He will notlet your foot be moved; he who keeps you will not slumber. 4Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.

5The LORD is your keeper; the LORD is your shade on your right hand. 6 The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night.

7The LORD will keep you from all evil; he will keep your life. 8The LORD will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore.

Psalm 121:1-8

There are often times in our lives when we just don’t get what God is up to! We wonder what’s going on? No matter how hard we try, sometimes our plans fall through, our lives seem fragmented, goals we want to accomplish seem to fall apart like a piece of thread pulling away from fabric. It is especially at these times, when things just don’t make sense, when our praise is not in concert with our belief, we’ve got to stand on the Word of God and know for certainty where our help comes from.

The Psalmist may have been in a tough spot! Where do we look when we are in these hard places? We lift up our eyes to the only answer to our situation – We can go to the Creator, the Sustainer of Life, the One who looked back into nothing and brought out something – and he said let there be and the world came into existence. How reassuring it is to know that God neither slumbers nor sleeps! He is concerned about every little thing that concerns us.  Regardless of how the situation looks, we are covered on all sides – The Lord is our keeper – our protection – our shield –and not just until the next crisis – but he will keep us from this time forth and forevermore.  It’s a done deal, you can take it to the bank, you can rely on this very credible source.

To you, my brother and my sister, I say – don’t fall a part because you aren’t sure about the outcome of your trial – God is a keeper and his name is on the line = he will deliver you according to his word. So, stop pacing the floor, stop burying your head in a carton of ice cream – go to sleep and stop worrying – He will keep you, if you want to be kept.
