Something to Shout About

1 Clap your hands, all you nations; shout to God with cries of joy.

Psalm 47:1

Christmas time is one of those seasons that has as a byproduct the most suicides, the most bouts of depression, the most crime, etc. You name it, and it seems to go awry at this time of the year. The current state of the global economy doesn’t make matters much easier. But in the midst of the turmoil, uneasiness, and gloom, there is a shout that should still be on the lips of every born-again believer!

We have something to shout about! Even in the midst of all the cries and woes, we can still get our “praise on!” There are myriad reasons why we can shout, however, let me just remind you of three: We can shout because of the person of God, the pardon of God, and the promises of God!

  1. The Person of God – God IS…and we know that we can add whatever we need to the end of that sentence and it will true. He is our deliverer, He is our keeper, He is our light, He is our protection, He is our rock, He is our way out of no way, He is our banner, He is our hope, the list is endless! He IS! He is just who He says He is and our security rests in who He is! God is awesome, God is alive, God is able! Even if our bodies are stricken with pain, even when our bills are past due, even if our jobs are unsecure, even if our families are in disarray, even if our future is not certain – we can still shout with cries of joy!

  2. The Pardon of God – In all reality we all deserve death, we all deserve to go to hell for our sinful nature. We were born in sin and shaped in iniquity. There is nothing good or righteous in any of us, but God pardoned us! In the nick of time, at the right time, Governor Jesus gave that final call to Death –right before we were to die in our sins and pardoned all of our past, present, and future sins! WOW! That’s certainly something to shout about!

  3. The Promises of God – God sees everything we’re going through! He knows all of our heartaches, our mess-ups and our dilemmas! He knows our suffering and he hears our cries! However, He has always kept His promises! He will NEVER leave us, He will never turn His back on us, He will never misuse us, He will never deceive us! He cares about us, He’s concerned about us, and He will continue to perform His perfect work in us.

Surely this is a short list of what we have to shout about! I’m certain you can make up a list of your own!
