5 Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God. Psalm 43:5
I loved the Sunday School message for yesterday (Daniel 3) that dealt with the story of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego’s fiery furnace experience. One of the things that stuck with me was the fact that although they were facing death, their faith remained strong no matter the outcome God has chosen for them. WOW! to have that kind of faith! But wait a minute! We all can have that kind of faith. God has proven Himself in our lives over and over and over again – He has remained faithful, in spite of us! Why is it then that when we are faced with any type of trial – be they small or large – we walk around as if we have no faith, no hope? The Psalmist asks the same question – why are you downcast, o my soul? Why do we walk around as if God is not going to deliver us, as if His Word is not true? I’ve never seen so many depressed Christians! I’ve never seen so many defeated saints! Where is your faith? Where is your hope? Your response should be as the psalmist’s – put your hope in God, Praise Him! He is your Savior and your God. Why is your soul and your countenance so downcast? Pick it Up! You serve a mighty God who is able to deliver you from your fiery furnace experience – and He’s so good that He can bring you out unsinged without even the tiniest aroma of smoke! Are you still downcast?Pick it Up!
