30 As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is flawless. He is a shield for all who take refuge in him. Psalm 18:30 (NIV)
In our society today we are so obsessed with being perfect and flawless. Some people will spend thousands of dollars and go through many painful surgeries to get the perfect nose, the perfect youthful face, the perfect body. The cosmetic industry makes billions of dollars selling the next best “solution” to having flawless skin, erasing wrinkles and dark eye circles. No matter how we try to be perfect and flawless, we will never make it. We were born flawed – born in sin and shapen in iniquity. Although as Christians we strive for perfection, we understand what verse 30 says: that God’s way is perfect and His word is flawless! The Bible tells us that we fall short but it is through the blood of Jesus Christ that we are made perfect.
You may try to reach perfection in many areas of your life – your career, your appearance, your education – but true perfection and flawlessness comes through Jesus Christ. He is a shield for us to hide our imperfection in. We can go to Him, flawed and imperfect and His love will cover us, protect us, and make us perfect in Him.
Don’t be so hard on yourself for not being the perfect person you want others to see – God loves you and sees you exactly where you are. His way is perfect and His Word is flawless – take refuge in Him and not in your image or the bottle of the next best solution.
