10 And David became greater and greater, for the Lord, the God of hosts, was with him. II Samuel 5:10
It is an awesome revelation to know that no matter what God remains with us. Of course He chastises us for our sins or calls us to the carpet when we need to confess, but He said that He would never leave us nor forsake us. David is probably one of the easiest people in the Bible to relate to. He was so full of flaws but at the end of the day He loved the Lord and he was earnest in his supplication and repentance. The Lord said that David was a man after his own heart!
Sometimes though there are moments when we can’t “feel” God’s presence. We think that He is far from us as we go through dark tunnels in our lives or periods of angst. However, the more you grow in the Lord, the more you realize that it’s not about your feelings but it’s about His Word and what He’s promised to do. Even after being in the Lord for years and years, we can find ourselves still having to remind ourselves of this fact! Just when you think you’ve conquered those feelings of uncertainty, they pop up again! But be not dismayed! God is there and He’s more than the world against you!
I remember when I was in my early teens my mother would say, “It’s just you and me against the world.” My mother was a single mom without much family support so this sentiment to me was her way of telling me that we could survive anything together. Unfortunately she did not keep this promise as she succumbed to the pressures of her life and became addicted to drugs. I found myself alone without much human support – but having come to Christ at an early age – I realized that I was not totally alone – God cared about me and my circumstances and He was more than the world against me.
I thank God for reminding me of those days – although they weren’t pleasant they drew me closer to Him! The next time you “feel” that God is far – remember all of those times that He stepped in, some times right in the nick of time! Remember that He WILL never leave you and that He will continue to perform that thing in you He has planted. Don’t give up, don’t give in – the Lord of hosts IS with you!
