Philippians 4: 4-8;11(b)-23 (NIV)
4Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. 8Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. 11(b)…for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. 12I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. 13I can do everything through him who gives me strength.
In Philippians 4 we are encouraged to rejoice because God is near! It might seem at times that He is far away – but we don’t need to be anxious, to be depressed or to feel abandoned! We have access to the King of kings through prayer and thanksgiving- how awesome it is to know that when our lives seem chaotic – God gives us peace! We just need to replace those dangerous thoughts of doubt, fear, and anxiety with those things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and praise worthy! And then after thinking on all that- be content! -Rest in the peace of God – bask in His love for us -knowing that ALL things are working together for our good and His glory! No matter how impossible it seems that we can be victorious – we can do all things through Christ who gives us strength. Do you believe it?
