1 O LORD, the God who avenges, O God who avenges, shine forth. 2 Rise up, O Judge of the earth; pay back to the proud what they deserve. 3 How long will the wicked, O LORD, how long will the wicked be jubilant? 4 They pour out arrogant words; all the evildoers are full of boasting. 5 They crush your people, O LORD; they oppress your inheritance. 6 They slay the widow and the alien; they murder the fatherless. 7 They say, “The LORD does not see; the God of Jacob pays no heed.” 8 Take heed, you senseless ones among the people; you fools, when will you become wise? 9 Does he who implanted the ear not hear? Does he who formed the eye not see? 10 Does he who disciplines nations not punish? Does he who teaches man lack knowledge? Psalm 94:1-10
How many times have you wondered why the wicked prosper? Don’t you feel as if they are often getting away with their actions even though they don’t serve the Most High God? In our world, and even in our lives, we see unrighteous people seemingly prospering from their ungodly actions. We contrast their actions with our own and it seems totally unfair. We work hard, we attempt to do what’s right and live our lives according to God’s Word and often we lack many of our basic needs. It also seems as if we are bombarded with the affluence of those who disregard God’s power and salvation as we see reality shows showing the lifestyles of the rich and famous and how they trivialize their wealth. There are even those of us that are being misused and misrepresented on our jobs by employers who are unyielding and difficult – yet they seem to continue to climb the ladder of success as they step on our heads! What’s wrong with this picture? Does not God hear, does not God see? Does not God punish? The psalmist wanted the answers to these questions as I’m sure we do also from time to time. The worst thing any of us could do is to try to take matters into our own hands. We cannot fix people, we cannot fix circumstances – we can, however, trust in a very wise God who DOES hear, and DOES see and in due time – WILL punish. The Lord is not slack concerning His promises! He knows exactly what He’s doing. No, you may not be rich, no, you may not have been born with a silver spoon in your mouth. No, you may NEVER know what it feels like to have everything you want or to be able to buy anything you want! But you were born to worship, you were born to exemplify God’s goodness, you were born to win! Winning is not measured by how much you have, what connections you have on earth, or what your stock portfolio looks like! Winning will be determined by what team you are on! There is only one winning team and the captain of the team is Jesus Christ! You may not understand fully what the strategy is, you may quite get why He called this play or that! But you can trust Him to lead you to victory! Will you play your part? No time to look on the sidelines at who has what or who’s doing what or who seems to be getting away with what! You’ve got a position to play so play it! Trust and obey that the captain knows what He’s doing and execute the plays He gives you to play! You are not a loser! You are not forgotten! You are not forsaken and you are not insignificant! You were born to WIN and in due time you will be given your reward, your trophy, for doing your part in the winning game!
