He Will Fulfill His Purpose in You

I sing your praise; I bow down toward your holy temple and give thanks to your name for your steadfast love and your faithfulness, for you have exalted above all things your name and your word. On the day I called, you answered me; my strength of soul you increased.

All the kings of the earth shall give you thanks, O Lord, for they have heard the words of your mouth, and they shall sing of the ways of the Lord, for great is the glory of the Lord. For though the Lord is high, he regards the lowly, but the haughty he knows from afar.

Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve my life; you stretch out your hand against the wrath of my enemies, and your right hand delivers me. The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me; your steadfast love, O Lord, endures forever. Do not forsake the work of your hands.

Psalm 138:1-8

Most Christians will confess to being able to identify with David.  David’s story was extraordinary – from a little shepherd boy to a King – his journey is remarkable – even his mess-ups are jaw-dropping because despite them, he showed a remorse and love for God that caused the Almighty to call him a “man after his own heart.” In this Psalm David recognizes God’s might and His towering strength over his enemies.  Although he knows that there are those who have it in for him, he knows that at the end of the day – God WILL fulfill his purpose for him.

That should definitely soothe our souls.  Regardless of the opposition, oppression or attack from our enemies, we can be assured that God sees – regards the lowly – and preserves our lives in the midst of trouble.  My favorite saying is that nothing takes God by surprise! He knew beforehand the pressure and attacks you would have to endure – not just from your enemies but also from those who claim to serve the same God as you.   But just like David did – give thanks to the Lord with your WHOLE heart – don’t hold anything back from praising Him and worshipping Him with your life! Just like David you can be assured that the Lord will fulfill His purpose in you! He’s a God of His Word and He will do just what He says!
