Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? 8 If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there. 9 If I take the wings of the morning, And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, 10 Even there Your hand shall lead me, And Your right hand shall hold me. 11 If I say, “Surely the darkness shall fall on me,” Even the night shall be light about me; 12 Indeed, the darkness shall not hide from You, But the night shines as the day; The darkness and the light are both alike to You.
David understood that the Lord is omnipresent – He is everywhere at the same time. There is no where we can go that the Lord cannot see us. Our pastor often says, “He can see a black ant on a black hill on a black night.” Truly the eyes of the Lord are everywhere. He sees us in the darkness when we think we are getting away with actions and behaviors contrary to His Word. David pointed out the wisdom of God – darkness and light are the same thing to Him – He sees just as well in the dark as He does in the light! Not only does He physically see us at all times – but even He sees the very crevices of our hearts! It must pain God when we are not behaving as His children and we walk around with nasty dispositions and we mistreat one another as if He isn’t watching! Most of us know that at times when we were younger we did things out of the presence of our parents or even anyone who could go back and tell our parents what we were doing. We thought we were getting away with whatever actions we were involved in. Some of us smoked, cussed and behaved horribly while we were away from home. But God sees and knows everything there is to know about us. We cannot hide from God. He sees into the very depths of our being. He knows more about us than even we do. This should also give us solace – to know that God can see deep within us. Have you ever been frustrated because you felt that others didn’t “get” you? They just don’t see the person you are becoming or they just don’t see that you are being transformed and made over by the power of the Holy Spirit? They only see the “you” that you were before. Well, it’s not so with God. He knows our true intentions, even if others don’t. And where ever we are and whatever we do, David says “Even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me.” Even when we are being misunderstood or misinterpreted – God sees!
If we are engaged in ungodly behavior, if we are constantly doing, speaking, and thinking things that are against the principles of God, then we must repent and tune our eyes, ears, and heart toward the Word of God so that our heart’s intention can be revealed to us and we can turn from any thing not like Him. We can’t run and we can’t hide from an omnipresent, omniscient and omnipotent God. He knows and He sees.
