You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought afar off. 3 You comprehend my path and my lying down, And are acquainted with all my ways. 4 For there is not a word on my tongue, But behold, O LORD, You know it altogether. 5 You have hedged me behind and before, And laid Your hand upon me. 6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; It is high, I cannot attain it.
Doesn’t it make you feel great, or special or important when someone who is important knows you? It’s just our nature to feel proud about the relationships we have with others who have made great names for themselves. However, there isn’t any relationship with anyone on earth more important than our relationship with the Almighty Father! Being able to say that the Lord of Lords, the Great “I AM”, Adonai, El-ohim, the Wonderful Counselor, the Mighty God, the Prince of Peace KNOWS us is solace even in our darkest days.
David went before the Lord recognizing that God knew everything about him. The Lord has searched our hearts, our character, our integrity and He knows us! He knows our sitting down and rising up – He knows where we lay our heads, where we go, who we surround ourselves with, what we like and what we don’t like. There isn’t anything about us that God doesn’t already know! We tend to give ourselves to others in sections – compartmentalizing certain people with certain aspects of our being. There are some friends we can be open with and some we have to withhold certain information from. We are even one way around some people and one way around others. But God is acquainted with ALL our ways. It’s not even that He had to study us to get to know us – He knew us before we even knew ourselves! There isn’t even a word that will be formed on our tongue that He doesn’t already know! He even knows what we say before we say it. He knows the thoughts that we will even think in the future!
But thanks be to God that He has placed a hedge in front of us and behind us to protect us – He has laid His hand on us and will even watch over those foolish mistakes we are bound to make today and even tomorrow!
David, realizing His majesty, said, “Such knowledge is too wonderful for me – it’s high and I cannot attain it.” In essence, I cannot even comprehend how you do it – but you do! I cannot even reach that level of understanding – it’s too much for my finite brain.
There is so much going on in today’s society. Today you may be feeling defeated, disillusioned, distressed and even distraught. But know that God knows you and He has put His hand on you. There is nothing that can befall you that He didn’t already see coming. Today, bless God for his infinite wisdom and knowledge of you and know that He has your best interest in mind for both today and tomorrow!
