He is Watching

12 Arise, LORD! Lift up your hand, O God. Do not forget the helpless.

13 Why does the wicked man revile God? Why does he say to himself, “He won’t call me to account”?

14 But you, O God, do see trouble and grief; you consider it to take it in hand. The victim commits himself to you; you are the helper of the fatherless.

15 Break the arm of the wicked and evil man; call him to account for his wickedness that would not be found out.

16 The LORD is King for ever and ever; the nations will perish from his land.

17 You hear, O LORD, the desire of the afflicted; you encourage them, and you listen to their cry,

18 defending the fatherless and the oppressed, in order that man, who is of the earth, may terrify no more.

Psalm 10:12-18

It seems that everywhere you go there is suffering, pain and anguish.  The recent events in Haiti have reminded us of the frailty of life and of the turmoil that can quickly behold any of us.  Most of us are very blessed and fortunate to have the lives we have, yet we must admit that we are not always so grateful for them.  The Psalmist saw the wickedness and the destruction of those who were evil and understood that there would be a time when

God would step in and right all of the wrongs they had done. Beyond that, though, he understood that God beheld all the true power, that he actively listened to the cries of the weak and that he would defend his own throughout eternity.  What an awesome revelation that is for us to know that no matter how helpless we often feel, God is actively listening and hearing our cries, seeing our afflictions and he is committed to defending us to the end.

Your life today may not be in ruins like those suffering in Haiti, but you still have your own battles and struggles to endure.  It may seem as if people are always trying to oppress you or put you in a box or judge your every move.  You may be experiencing financial difficulties or physical challenges that seem as if they are going to swallow you alive.  But hold on my sister, my brother, there is a God who will arise and lift up his head -who sees your trouble and grief and has not forgotten you.  Make a decision to hold on to his promises no matter who or what you face and fully commit and submit yourself to him.  Remember that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him so open up that Word, lay prostrate  in his presence and allow him the sweet communion that he seeks from you.  He really is only trying to get your attention – so know that he is watching and that he cares and that he will defend you in order that man, who is of the earth, may terrify you NO MORE!
