For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb. 14 I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well. 15 My frame was not hidden from You, When I was made in secret, And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. 16 Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, The days fashioned for me, When as yet there were none of them.
This psalm is an awesome testament to the majesty, power, and infinite wisdom of God! David acknowledges God’s ability to know everything there is to know about us! He formed us and covered/protected us while in our mother’s womb. This is exciting to me as I was a premature baby – arriving two months early and weighing only 3 lbs. 13 oz! Now days we have advanced medically so much that a premature baby has a much greater chance of survival. However, I was born in 1966 when the chances of a premature baby surviving were much slimmer. My mother, not realizing that she was in labor, went to the hospital for a routine check-up only to find out that she was to deliver. The doctor told her that if she had kept walking around that day she could have delivered me right on the street! But God!!! God covered me and protected me in my mother’s womb. He saw in me my substance and all the days of my life – He saw me even before my birth on November 3, 1966! All of my days were already written even before they began!! All of my trials, my circumstances, my mess-ups, my accomplishments, my comings, my goings, my groanings – all of my days were fashioned just for me! What a mighty God we serve!
Why should we fret when we’re going through? Why should we panic when we don’t know what to do? Why should we walk around as people with no hope when all things around us seem hopeless? ALL of our days have already been fashioned just for us – even before we were formed in our mother’s womb! Even before we were a reality in our mother’s life! We are fearfully and wonderfully made after God’s own image and if He can form us, cover us, fashion us – then surely He can take care of us!
Makes me wanna shout! How bout you?
