1 Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God.
Well, there are only 5 days left before Americans go to the polls and elect the next president of the United States. So many issues, so much to absorb on both sides! It’s been a long and tiring haul. I don’t know about you, but I’m so grateful that it’s almost over! But this morning after I thought about the impact the outcome could have on the country, it caused me a little angst. Of course in my life time I’ve never seen the country so passionate about a political race. But it is safe to say that our country is narrowly divided by this election. What will folks do when their candidate doesn’t win? What will be your reaction should your choice for president NOT win?
I love the Word of God because truly it has the answers to ALL of our life’s dilemmas and it does, in fact, have a solution to even this matter. The Word tells us that God has appointed our leaders! Does that mean that He is Democratic, Republican or Independent? No, but it does mean that He is STILL in control, even of our election and for whatever reason that may be unbeknownst to us, we can assume that no matter which candidate wins – God allowed it! We may not like it, we may not understand it, but we can still live godly lives, abundant lives and effective lives – regardless of who the president is. As Christians our world does not revolve around the politics of our day or what’s going on in Washington. Sure, the actions of others, specifically in the White House, may have an effect on our daily lives – but their actions do not control our lives. The Bible tells us in Romans 8:28 that ALL things work together for the good of them that love the Lord and are the called according to His purpose. We can be sure that regardless of this election’s outcome, our God is still holding the keys to our future and we are required to remain salt and light even in the darkness of our society.
So, I challenge you to go out and vote your conscience, be involved in the electoral process, but regardless of the outcome – continue to give God glory and praise and continue to let Him shine through your daily life. He is still on the throne and He’s not coming down just because of who the next president will be. He still holds ALL power in His hands!
