Don’t You Move!

58Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. I Corinthians 15:58 (NIV)

There are times in our Christian walk when we feel stagnate or stifled or complacent. We are working for the Lord and sometimes the people we are serving seem unappreciative, unrelenting, or unresponsive. I hear often from others working in ministry how difficult the task when working amongst people who are not responding to God’s Word or whose behaviors or lifestyles are unaffected by its power! I know, too well, the overwhelming feeling to quit, to give up and to find “something else” to do. But it’s not that easy, is it? When you have a call on your life to do something for the Lord, you are expected and required to fulfill it – despite how you feel or how others respond!

Paul understood that workers in God’s vineyard would have such feelings of angst and fret. He encourages with the words “stand firm, let nothing move you.” You have to be so committed to fulfilling God’s purpose in you that you don’t even let YOU interfere with the work that you’ve been called to do! That’s deep, isn’t it? You have to understand and be aware of the fact that YOU can get in the way, too! I have countless moments, sometimes every day (LOL), where I want to get out of it all and do something else, be someone else, go somewhere else! But scriptures such as this bring hope and calm to my “jump ship” attitude. Give yourself fully to the work of the Lord – never stop, don’t halt, don’t give up! Sometimes you may just need to readjust, realign yourself or reevaluate what you’re doing – but it’s not time to give up! Don’t move unless God says to move. And I do believe that sometimes He will move you – but make sure that He is truly the one doing the moving. Know that your labor is not in vain – even when others don’t seem to be listening, even if you feel alone or weary. Your labor is not in vain, the seeds that you are planting will take root in someone’s life – you may not even be aware of it.

Don’t let others deter you, don’t get sidetracked and hindered. Don’t even let “YOU” get in the way of doing what you have been purposed, called and born to do!
