Be not afraid

1 The LORD is my light and my salvation— whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life— of whom shall I be afraid?

2 When evil men advance against me to devour my flesh, when my enemies and my foes attack me, they will stumble and fall.

3 Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then will I be confident.

Psalm 27:1-3

If there is ever a scripture to quote when you feel afraid it is Psalm 27. Remember when you were a kid and someone challenged you on the playground or in your neighborhood? If you had an older brother, or sister, or other relative whom you knew weren’t afraid of anyone, you could reply to the challenge, “I’m going to get my big brother on you!” You were confident that you didn’t have to do a thing to defend yourself, you only needed to mention the name of that person and the threat was validated! Don’t we realize that we have that same power in the world today when we are faced with challenges and situations that threaten us? The Psalmist was surely confident! The Lord is my light – when I am faced with dark situations! The Lord is my salvation – He will deliver me out of whatever snares I find myself in! He is the stronghold of my life – He has my life in the very palm of His hand. Is there anyone of whom I should be afraid? Absolutely NOT!

Regardless of the enemies that stand in wait to pounce on me and destroy me – The Lord is all the army that I need! There is NO weapon that is formed against me that can prosper. Why? Because everything that happens to me has already gotten a stamp of approval from the Lord – it didn’t take Him by surprise and He has already made the outcome certain: All things work together for the good of them that love the Lord! He’s working it out for my good and His glory!

Even if the enemies are as large as an army and they launch a full fledged attack – even then will I be confident. We must have this assurance, this confidence that no matter the war against us, the Lord is all the army we need!

So why stand you afraid? Why is your countenance fallen? Why do you walk around as if Commander Jesus is not in control of your life? Stand up and stand strong, my fellow soldier! The battle has already been fought on Calvary and the victory is yours!
