9But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light; (I Peter 2:9)
We love this scripture, don’t we? It speaks of our position in Christ – chosen, royal, holy….but what about this word peculiar? Peculiar means odd, strange, unusual, irregular, atypical, abnormal. WOW! Did you ever consider yourself as any of those things? But guess what, you are and its a privilege to be so.
Think about it, the child of God has to be seen as peculiar in today’s society. You are peculiar when you stand up for what’s right, regardless of consequences. You are peculiar when you don’t take part in the office gossip, or church gossip for that matter! You are peculiar when you decide not to cheat on your taxes, on your spouse, or in school! You are peculiar when you don’t steal the office pens (you don’t, do you??LOL). You are peculiar when you decide to live holy in a society where everything goes!
Yes, you are peculiar – because of the awesome grace and lovingkindness of a gentle Savior. You are peculiar because you realize that there is no good thing in you and you deserve to die….but God!
It’s okay to embrace who you are in Christ – you are different, you are strange, you’re unusual, you’re abnormal – you’re a Child of the Most High God!
