A Bit Overwhelming

1Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer.

2From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

3For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy. Psalm 61:1-8

I love this Psalm of David! I memorized it as a teenager and it has always been a blessing to me. There is power and assurance in the fact that we may, at times, feel overwhelmed by life and outside forces or influences, but we have a place to run, to escape, to dwell in when they do come. God is our refuge, our very present help in the time of trouble. He is our shelter, our strong tower – He is the ROCK that is higher than we are – the higher ground we can go to when our valley days approach! I don’t know about you but that’s great news to me! As my thoughts and prayers went to the families that experienced loss and anguish as the Boy Scout camp was destroyed, I could only imagine how painful and traumatic the experience. I pray that there are believers among the families that know that God is there with them to take them to higher ground. I can only pray for those that don’t know Him to realize that He will hear their cry for salvation, for solace, for compassion.

We tend to get on our sofas of pity when just the little things of life alter our plans or annoy us and not think about the many big blessings God bestows upon us each and every day. We never know if or when we will experience some totally devastating event, but even in that we realize that we have an insurance policy from on high that will get us through the rubble. He IS our shelter, our strong tower, our ROCK! As His children we are GUARANTEED that He will hear us and attend unto our prayer and our concerns.

Life at times may seem a bit overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be! Trust in God and know that you’ve got an insurance policy that you can cash in on at any time without limitations or penalties.
