1 Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. Well, there are only 5 days left before Americans go to the polls and elect the next president of the United States. So many issues, so much to absorb on both sides! It’s been a long and tiring haul. I don’t know about you, but I’m so grateful that it’s almost over! But this morning after I thought about the impact the outco
8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. James 4:8 I’m reminded of an example my pastor’s wife used many years ago in which she compared intimacy with Christ to sitting by a fire, cozying up under a warm blanket and reading a good novel. That image stayed with me because it is one of my favorite things to do in the winter. I hate cold weather, but I love the ambiance you can create on a cold n
This morning I could not even bring myself to think about anything but Jennifer Hudson and her family. This weekend’s tragic events remind us more and more about the evil that is pervasive in our world and that the only solution is Jesus Christ. I cannot even imagine what Ms. Hudson is going through, but I am heartbroken over the loss of her mother, brother and possibly even her nephew and I don’t know them personally. The Bible tells us that we ought to mourn with they that
1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage. Galatians 5:1 There are many things in our lives that enslave us to the point where we are not being productive or effective. For the majority of us enslavement begins with our past. We’ve had difficult upbringings and/or traumatic experiences that have bruised our being and the effects often follow us throughout our lives – causing us to process thro
6 I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, 7 which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ. 8 But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. 9 As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accu
9Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word. 10With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments. 11Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. 12Blessed art thou, O LORD: teach me thy statutes. 13With my lips have I declared all the judgments of thy mouth. 14I have rejoiced in the way of thy testimonies, as much as in all riches. 15I will meditate in thy precepts, and h
I was driving home after taking my girls to school this morning and I saw the marquee on a church which simply stated, “If God is Your Co-Pilot, Switch Seats.” I can almost remember when the saying God is My Co-pilot became popular. There were bumper stickers, buttons, and other items displaying the saying and people proudly placed them on their cars, etc. There is also a saying that goes, “When You know Better, You Do Better.” I think that this is now the case as this church
“How great you are, O Sovereign LORD! There is no one like you, and there is no God but you, as we have heard with our own ears.”- 2 Samuel 7:22 I’m sure there are times in your life when you awake with what seems like the world resting on your shoulders. This feeling may leave you drained and often unable to hold your head up high. My thoughts and prayers today go to a local family of a 52 year old woman who took her dog for a walk the other day, only to be shot. She died y
1 O LORD, the God who avenges, O God who avenges, shine forth. 2 Rise up, O Judge of the earth; pay back to the proud what they deserve. 3 How long will the wicked, O LORD, how long will the wicked be jubilant? 4 They pour out arrogant words; all the evildoers are full of boasting. 5 They crush your people, O LORD; they oppress your inheritance. 6 They slay the widow and the alien; they murder the fatherless. 7 They say, “The LORD does not see; the God of Jacob pays no heed.”
17The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever.
I John 2:17 The Christian responsibility on this earth is to do the will of God. What is God’s will? We know that He has created us in His image and that through a relationship with Him we are to reflect His love for mankind and bring others to Him. Because of sin we had been separated from Him – denying us access to such a holy God. But God sent His Son Jesus Christ into the world – a
31But those who wait for the Lord [who expect, look for, and hope in Him] shall change and renew their strength and power; they shall lift their wings and mount up [close to God] as eagles [mount up to the sun]; they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint or become tired. Isaiah 40:31 AMP One of the things I struggle most with in my Christian walk is waiting. I’m sure I’m not alone as I often listen to other Christians admit that waiting is an area in their
You know my sitting down and my rising up;
You understand my thought afar off.
3 You comprehend my path and my lying down,
And are acquainted with all my ways.
4 For there is not a word on my tongue,
But behold, O LORD, You know it altogether.
5 You have hedged me behind and before,
And laid Your hand upon me.
6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;
It is high, I cannot attain it. Psalm 139:1-6 Doesn’t it make you feel great, or special or important when someone who is
Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence?
8 If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there.
9 If I take the wings of the morning, And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,
10 Even there Your hand shall lead me, And Your right hand shall hold me.
11 If I say, “Surely the darkness shall fall on me,” Even the night shall be light about me;
12 Indeed, the darkness shall not hide from You, But the night shi
For You formed my inward parts;
You covered me in my mother’s womb.
14 I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Marvelous are Your works,
And that my soul knows very well.
15 My frame was not hidden from You,
When I was made in secret,
And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
16 Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed.
And in Your book they all were written,
The days fashioned for me,
When as yet there were none of them. Psalm
23 Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; 24 And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting. Psalm 139:23-24 The world leaves an incredible stain in our lives sometimes. It’s pollution can be found in many areas of our lives – leaving us with toxins and blemishes and many habits and behaviors unlike Christ – sometimes the effects are even unbeknown to us. In order to get the toxins of the world out of our system, in o
The word ministry simply means to serve. I feel that the title of pastor’s wife does not give you a pass regarding serving God’s people. As pastors’ wives we can not dress up and expect others to ‘serve the Mrs.’ when we, too, are called to serve the masses. Candie A. Price – Thank you so much for taking the time to speak to us. Tell us a little about your upbringing, where you were raised, family life, etc. Dr. Tara Jenkins: I was born and raised as an only child in the smal
